Our Story
It was
December, 2012. Marissa was a party planner working as a hostess for Party
Machine – Party buses. Twas the 12 bars of Christmas event that was happening that
weekend in Calgary, Alberta. Marissa happened to be working the double shift
and was already on her 2nd set of 12 bars. She was the Party Queen
back in the day and had perfect attendance for Party Machine’s monthly
specialty events. It felt like every weekend Marissa was getting paid to party.
All the while Andrew and his group of friends
were making their way to B.C to go skiing and snowboarding. Little did they
know their friend had an epic night planned during their stopover in Calgary –
to attend the 12 bars of Christmas event!
It was 6:30pm
and the event was about to start. Bar number one was getting packed. As Marissa
is checking in everyone she meets Andrew and the group. She was so excited to
find out that people from out of town came all the way to Calgary to join her. Andrew
& Marissa began to talk and hit it off as friends. They exchanged each others’
numbers but it was not until the New Year that they texted each other to wish a
happy new year. It was not until the following April that they decided to see
each other again. Andrew, being the gentleman he is, hopped on a plane to visit
Marissa in Calgary. The interesting part was that Marissa was still living with
her family, so Andrew had to meet the parents on the first visit and they were
not even dating. Apparently he made a good enough impression that Marissa was
allowed to hop on a plane a couple months later to visit Andrew in Ottawa. Andrew and Marissa quickly learned they were
even more special than either could have hoped. On May 10th, 2013
Andrew asked Marissa to be his girlfriend and they accepted the long distance
relationship challenge. From skyping everyday, texting everyday and flying to
each other every 4 months back and forth, the two made it work. After a year
and a half of long distance they both decided it was time for someone to move. Marissa
willingly exited the party business to move to Ottawa so they could live their
lives together in Ottawa.
Till this day
the two love birds laugh and talk about how they met on a party bus and how
they made long distance work for each other. After 5 years of being together
Andrew got on his knee and asked Marissa to be his future wife.
